Joan Stoffberg (née Morris)
Joan Morris (6/08/1947) witnessed the forced removals in Claremont largely through the experiences of her grandparents who lived on College Rd. Living there herself until the age of 6 or 6 or 7 years old, her family moved to Rondebosch East early in the 50s while Joan spent weekends and holidays with her grandparents, George & Sally Morris in Claremont.
Joan recalls spending her childhood in the enormous back garden at her grandparents’ home, playing with the neighbouring children whose parents took care of the printers shop across the road (where Rosmead Spar is now), and visiting her frail grandmother a few streets down, near Hampstead Rd.
Joan married Anthony Stoffberg 24 October 1970, and they have two sons: Jason & Brenton, and one grandchild, Sara.
