Past Events
The Newlands/Claremont Heritage, Environmental Justice and Restitution Society (NCHERS) invites you to join its third Walk of Remembrance on Monday 25 September 2023 – a public holiday following Heritage Day. Start at 8.30am at Livingstone High School to Leraar Stree t to Harvey Road, to 2nd Avenue, to Hereford Road, to 3rd Avenue, to Leraar Street, to Livingstone High School Hall. The walk will be led by the Young Guiding Stars Band of St Matthew’s.
The walk will end at 10.00am, after which we will gather in the Livingstone School Hall for the NCHERS AGM and Heritage Day Programme. Guest speakers will include former Claremont/Newlands residents.
We hope former residents of the Newlands/Claremont communty will support our Walk of Remembrance and contribute to building NCHERS as a way of preserving, celebrating and memorialising the lost lived history, heritage and legacy of this area.
- Registration starts at 8.30am at Livingstone High School Hall
- Start of Walk of Remembrance: 9am
- End of Walk at Livingstone High School: 10am
- NCHERS AGM & Heritage Day Programme: 10am – 1pm
- REFRESHMENTS WILL BE ON SALE
Heritage Day 2022
A Walk of Remembrance was held on Heritage Day 2022 to honour the memories of those who lost their communities as a result of the enforcing of the Group Areas Act.
